From: Southern Haiti
Vetiver
Roots of a tall grass that hold the earth together, smoky and green at once, from a cooperative we know well.
- Family
- Woody, earthy
- What we use
- The roots of a tall tropical grass
- Harvest
- Harvested all year
What it smells like
- Smoky wood
- Wet earth after rain
- Hazelnut and grapefruit peel

Vetiver grass grows taller than a person, and its roots go almost as deep. Farmers in southern Haiti dig them up, wash them and distil them into an oil that smells of smoke, earth and rain.
We buy ours from the same cooperative every year. It is the base of Vetiver Rain and a quiet thread in Citrus Gallery.
