Why perfume smells different on you

Your skin, your diet and even the weather change how a fragrance wears. Here is what is going on.

Paper blotter strips fanned in a glass beside small sample vials on a lilac tray.

The same fragrance can smell sharp on one person and soft on another. It is not your imagination.

Oily skin holds scent longer

Fragrance clings to oils. Dry skin lets it evaporate faster, so moisturise first with something unscented.

Warmth speeds everything up

In a New Orleans summer, top notes vanish in minutes and the base arrives early. In winter, a fragrance unfolds slowly.

Always test on skin

A blotter shows you the fragrance; your skin shows you how it will wear. That is why the discovery set exists.
